Summary
This study investigated the production of copper radionuclides (61Cu, 64Cu, 67Cu) at an 18 MeV medical cyclotron using zinc targets with varying isotopic enrichment. The cross sections of all nuclear reactions leading to copper radioisotopes within the relevant energy range were measured. Based on these results, optimized irradiation parameters were identified, and experimental production tests validated the approach. The findings demonstrate the feasibility of producing the theranostic pairs 61Cu/67Cu and 64Cu/67Cu within a single facility, supporting decentralized production of copper-based radiopharmaceuticals for nuclear medicine.
