Summary
Natural dyes such as asthaxantin could be a promising material for low dose dosimetry as dose dependent color changes help detect low doses for safe practices in radiation areas such as radiotherapy and nuclear medicine as well as environment. The mechanism of radiochromic properties is due to the interaction of radiolysis products of chloroform and the conjugated bonds of asthaxantin. The spectrophotometric results show a linear relation in the dose range from 0 to 10 Gy.
