Abstract: In the context of pixelated radiation detectors, a typical asynchronous front-end electronics signal processing chain including charge-sensitive amplifier, shaper, discriminator and peak detector is reviewed. Design guidelines for performance optimization are derived from simple analysis. Some circuit implementations options are discussed and compared with process scaling in perspective
