The 19th Patras Workshop will take place in Patras, a coastal city in south Greece of about 210.000 inhabitants. Patras is situated on the northern part of the Peloponnese peninsula. Τhe city faces the Gulf οf Corinth on the one side and mountains of the Greek mainland on the other side, placing it in a magnificent geographic location.

Τransportation

1. Getting to Patras from Araxos Airport

Although being the 3rd most significant town in the country, Patras has no airport. The nearby small airport of Araxos (https://www.araxos-airport.com/) is used by the tour operator TUI for flights from/to Germany. For example, for the dates 15/9/ arrival - 20/9 departure there are flights only from Munich. If you are interested in this flight, hurry up and book it. TUI air tickets are usually more expensive than using the Athens International Airport, but by hiring a taxi from Araxos for about 60-70 euros, within 45min you can be at your hotel in Patras.

For participants who arrive to this Airport on Sunday 15/9 and leave on Friday 20/9 the organizers of the Workshop will arrange a shuttle bus. More details to be announced.

2. Getting to Patras from Athens International Airport

The Athens International Airport “Eleftherios Venizelos” is the main country’s airport. From there you have multiple options:

a) Taking the shuttle bus

For participants who arrive to Athens Airport on Sunday 15/9 and leave on Friday 20/9 the organizers of the Workshop will arrange a shuttle bus. More details to be announced.

b) Renting a car

Another option is renting a car (book it sufficiently early to get a better price) and arrive to Patras in about 2.5 hours (about 240 km) via highway (tolls are about 15 Euros). Parts of the route along the Gulf of Korinth offer beautiful views. The route is relatively easy to navigate.

You first get from the airport to the Athens Ring Road (called “Attiki Odos”) and you continue towards the city of Elefsina. From then on, you are automatically driving on the “Olympia Odos” Motorway (also named European route E65). You follow the signs “Elefsina” until you see the sign “Patras”.  Watch out near the city of Corinth to stay in the right lanes. As soon as you arrive in Patras take the right lane and exit towards Port.

c) Taking the train

Another way to come to Patras from the Athens Airport is, to take the train from the airport to the town of Kiato (mind there is usually a change in the railway station of “Kato Acharnai”). Αs soon as you arrive in Kiato there is a connecting bus of the Greek railway that takes you to Patras [tickets are all bought together]. This is the cheapest way to reach Patras but takes more time (about 3,5 hours) and you need to make 2 changes. The connection is frequent (usually there are trains every hour).

d) Hiring a taxi on your own

You can always hire a taxi at the airport either via the internet (there are a lot of available companies) or when you arrive there. Alternatively, there are companies in Patras that do this service, so let us know if you want it.
