EUSTACHIO MANFREDI (Bologna, 1674-1739)

Enfant prodige, who at only sixteen years old founded at his own home the "Accademia degli Inquieti", the first nucleus of the "Accademia delle Scienze", Eustachio Manfredi was a professor of Mathematics at the University of Bologna and the first director of the Specola. He devoted himself for a long time to the study of the aberration of fixed stars, leading to the publication of the work "De annuis inerrantium stellarum aberrationibus" in 1729. The observations made by Manfredi in collaboration with his brothers are consultable at the Archive; they were later published in the series "Ephemerides Bononienses", which are available at the Department Library.
