How to reach Rome

Rome is connected to Italian and European major cities by airplane or by train. We do not suggest to reach Rome by car or to rent a car on site.

Rome by train

Rome is connected with the main Italian cities. You can buy train tickets to/from Roma Termini or Roma Tiburtina train station via either Trenitalia or Italo web sites. Both stations are close to Sapienza University.

Rome by plane

Rome is served by two airports: Fiumicino and Ciampino. Once arrived at one of them, you can go to Termini train station using the public transportation

  • From Fiumicino: the airport is connected to the city center through railway. Leonardo Express is a direct train from Fiumicino airport to Termini station that leaves approximately every 20 minutes; the ticket price is 14 € per person and the trip lasts 32 minutes. Alternatively, there are slower trains (8 €, 50 minutes travel) for the same trip. Both tickets are available on the Trenitalia website. Other options can be found on the Airport website.
  • From Ciampino: You can reach Termini train station either by train or bus. Please look at the Airport website for more details.

Taxis are always available at the airports. Fees are around 30 € from Ciampino and 50 € from Fiumicino plus an extra for luggage. Be careful the car has the "TAXI" sign on the roof and the license number on the doors. We suggest asking the taxi driver for the estimated fare before getting on board.

How to reach Sapienza

Sapienza is close to Rome's two main train stations: Roma Termini and Roma Tiburtina.

By metro

Sapienza is within walking distance from three Metro stops:

By bus

Depending on where you are located, there are several bus lines connecting the university: 71, 88, 163, 204, 310, 492, 649.

Moving around the city

ATAC serves the main public transportation in the Rome city. Tickets can be found in all Metro Stations and some tobacco shops. Tickets serve Metro, bus and Tram.  One ride ticket is 1.50 € and is valid for 100 minutes on different transportations (but only one metro ride). There are also daily/more days tickets, which allow infinite trips during the availability period.

WARNING: Please be aware that during the conference days the tram lines will be out of service and will be replaced by buses.

Accomodation

We suggest a few hotels close by Rome Termini Station and Sapienza University (Piazzale Aldo Moro 5, 00185 RM):
