Description
Asymptotically safe gravity has emerged as a promising while conservative approach to quantum gravity. It is based on the language of quantum field theory and Weinberg's idea that gravity could be ultraviolet-complete with respect to an interacting fixed point of the gravitational renormalization group flow. In this informal seminar I will give a pedagogical introduction to asymptotically safe gravity, from basic concepts to an overview of the current state-of-the-art of the field. In particular, in the last part of the seminar, I will summarize key implications of the asymptotic-safety scenario for quantum gravity in early-universe cosmology, black-hole physics, and the standard model of particle physics.
