Description
The sustainment of the current electronic device miniaturization trend in the next 10 years would yield unrealistic power density levels and temperatures, making the operation of nanoelectronic devices impossible without significant improvements in cooling technology or fundamental changes in device designs. Hot spots, the low thermal conductivity in thin films and nanowires, and the thermal resistance appearing at interfaces, present all a difficult challenge in the development of reliable nanostructures. Therefore, for future technology developments, a fundamental understanding of the physics of electron and phonon transport in nano materials and nanostructures is necessary.
