Description
I discuss the importance of parton distributions (PDFs) for
physics at the LHC. After reviewing the current state of the art of PDF knowledge,
I present the novel approach to PDF determination which has been pursued
by the NNPDF collaboration. I show how the NNPDF methodology, based on a
monte carlo approach combined with the use of neural network, addresses
the delicate issue of accurate determination of PDF uncertainties. I
present recent NNPDF PDF sets, compare them with other available sets, and
argue that they are most suited for discovery physics at the LHC.
