I tell the story of a very unusual collaboration called "Ademollo et al." or better "il supergruppo" in which former students and young collaborators of Sergio Fubini and Tullio Regge, including
Alessandro, in the early 70's joined their efforts to transform the dual resonance model into a full-fledged string theory.

I give a brief overview on recent results in string field theory (SFT) concerning infrared divergent string amplitudes. SFT is constructed in such a way that it reproduces string amplitudes when these are finite. When these are divergent on the other hand, the amplitudes computed from SFT are finite and unambiguous.
