An ionic liquid is a salt that has a melting point below 100 °C. Because of distinctive and exotic properties, they have extensive uses in food processing, polymer synthesis, waste management, and energy harvesting. Further, they have potential applications in the biomedical industry. Their activities mainly depend on perturbed self-assembly of amphiphilic molecules, such as lipids, in bulk and at interfaces. The talk will include the thermodynamics of interaction of these liquids with amphiphilic molecules and the rheological behaviour of the system. Then, the structural details probed by X-ray scattering will be discussed. Finally, a molecular mechanism of interaction will be presented.
