Description
The heavy ion LINAC (UNILAC) at GSI is capable to accelerate all ions up to an energy of 14 MeV/u. The UNILAC serves as the injector of the synchrotron SIS18 and the planed FAIR facility. For this task high current operation up to 10 mA for heavy ions is achieved in the last years. Non-invasive diagnostics is required to determine the beam properties for standard operation and dedicated machine development. In the first part of the talk these methods are reviewed. For the determination of the longitudinal parameters, bunch shape and momentum spread, advanced methods were applied. The experiences with these diagnostics devices are reported.
