Description
The Muller-Bethe-Schwinger-Casimir formulas for the frequency shift in electromagnetic resonators are generalized to the case of big variations of electric permittivity inside small regions. The new formulas are compared with results of exact calculations in the known simple cases. An emphasis is made on the specific geometry related to the MIR experiment on the dynamical Casimir effect: thin inhomogeneous semiconductor slabs attached to the plain boundary of a cavity. The main application is related to the so-called reentrant cavities, which seem to be very promising in the experiments on the dynamical Casimir effect.
