Description
The production of a Maxwell-Boltzmann neutron spectrum (MBNS) at kT=30 keV using a Gaussian-shaped proton beam with mean energy of 1.712± 0.09 MeV is theoretically possible [P.F Mastinu, G. Martín Hernández, J. Praena, NIM A 601 (2009) 333]. The objective of this experiment is to validate our calculation by measuring the neutron spectrum emitted in the forward direction in the lab system of coordinates. For measuring the neutron spectrum a time of flight (TOF) technique is proposed and the TOF spectrum must be collected at different angles between 0 and 90 degree. The angle-integrate neutron energy spectrum would produce a MBNS at kT=30 keV.
