In the first part of the talk, the activities of the Nuclear Metrology Group of the National Physical Laboratory, based in Teddington, UK, will be presented. They consist in the development and traceability of primary and secondary standards for gamma rays and neutrons, in the production of thermal and monoenergetic neutron fields and in the development of spectroscopic techniques for dosimetry and radioprotection challenges.
The second part of the talk will be focused on the presentation of the outcome of an experiment performed at GSI with the FRS-LYCCA-AGATA setup, devoted at the measurement of electric quadrupole matrix elements Mp for the 2+->0+ transitions across the A=46 isobaric multiplet 46Cr-46V-46Ti. This allows to get direct insight into the isospin purity of the states of interest by testing the linearity of Mp with respect to Tz. The experimental results will be presented and compared with shell model calculations, which clearly show the importance of cross-shell excitations.
