In the last decade, developments in many-body techniques and nuclear interactions have pushed ab initio nuclear structure calculations up to the region of mid-mass nuclei. I will discuss few examples of such progress and address some key open questions related to the assessment of theoretical errors and the extension of these calculations to heavier systems.
