Particle therapy uses proton or 12C beams for the treatment of deep-seated solid tumors, profiting from their high spatial selectivity in the dose release to spare the healthy tissues surrounding the tumour. The nuclear reactions in patient tissues play an important role in PT. The detection of the particles which escape from the patient could be exploited to monitor the beam range. Moreover, the dose released by the charged fragments resulting from the fragmentation processes has to be accounted in the treatment planning. In this contribution both this aspects will be discussed respectively reviewing the latest results of INSIDE collaboration.
