Description

The discovery of Higgs boson and the measurement of its properties with run I LHC data confirms the reality of the Higgs potential. The simplest shape initially postulated by Brout-Englert-Higgs and appropriate for the electroweak symmetry breaking mechanism is quadratic. The only process that provides a direct handle to the quadratic term lambda is H* → HH. In practice in the SM the cross section of this process is so small that this process is at the edge of detectability by the LHC. In this seminar will be pictured the different strategies that were proposed and are under development by CMS and ATLAS teams to reach the required sensitivity and uncover the true structure of the potential. In particular the landscape of different deviations from the simplest potential compatible with high-precision EW measurements will be discussed, along with the plan for the ways to explore it.
