----------------------------------------------------------- Minutes of the Meeting [16 Nov. 2007] ----------------------------------------------------------- present : D. Hitlin, M. Giorgi, A. Lusiani, G. Wormser, A. Stocchi, M. Ciuchini, T. Gershon, P. Harrison, D. Leith, F. Martinez, A. Oyanguren, M. A. Sanchis Lozano. Apologies from J.Olsen Marcello introduces the meeting mentioning the still unofficial replies from the IRC on the Physics Case. The feedback from IRC is positive and few questions will be soon sent. The central point is to try to make sharper the discovery potential cases with some explicit demonstration on the need of 10**36 luminosity. Some example - LFV in the tau decays (from discovery point of view) probably coupling at least two decay modes. - CP violation in D0 sector and evenutally on tau. - use of the snowmass points to to show that effects are visible on flavour observable and that flavour parameters can be (precisely) measured Private discussions between some people present at the meeting with the IRC and the IRC members confirm the positive attitude of the IRC and the need of more work mentionned above. Marcello discussed about the needs of involving more people in this effort. SC committed to adding new people to the responsibles of the Physics chapter of the CDR (Marco, Tim and Achille) Riccardo Faccini and Jim Olsen. Both accepted to help. Marcello remind that him, David Hitlin, Mike Roney and David Asner volonteer to help in the organisation of Valencia meeting. Discussion started (involving all) on the organisation of the Working Groups for Valencia meeting. Conclusions are that these working groups are the place where the answers to the IRC are prepared (with some work) and where we could try to go further and to add new topics which have been not really discussed in the CDR and not explicitely asked by IRC (ex: spetroscopy) Possible groups with some specifications and with names of people who volonteer to contribute are given below. - tau physics M. Roney, A. Lusiani, M. Giorgi, P. Bernabeu, D. Hitlin... [we should ask if the theorists who worked on the tau chapter for the CDR (Isidori & Paradisi) would like to be involved.] For LVF at least two channels have to be studied with more care, probably tau-> mu gamma and tau--> mu mu mu. On the other hands we should work on -ACP in tau decay for a particular mode. Plot of the ACP -Anomalous and charge magnetic moment in tau decay -EDM to eventually demonstrate the need for polarized beams. Here a discussion started, yet not conclusive, on the needs of splitting this group in two groups. A proposal suggests the splitting of the groups more along the lines of "LFV" and "physics with polarized beams" - Charm physics. Centered on CP violation I. Bigi, D. Asner + students.. In CDR the CP violation in D0 mixing was just touched. More work is needed on it. David said he can involve PHD students to work on it. Ikaros will participate to the workshop. - Phenomenological group. M. Ciuchini, T. Gershon, A. Stocchi... Refinements of the CDR material trying to pointing out better the discovery potential as a function of the luminosity (for instance on MSSM + generic SUSY breaking terms scenario..) Work on Snowmass points as asked by the IRC. Marco will try to contact theorists to join this group. Sofar DeltaF=2 measurements were used, DeltaF=1 measurements should be added. For this group, the expertise on b--> s gamma is essential, mainly to see if we can gain in precision on the measurement of the Branching fraction by lowering the cut on the E(gamma). Experts should be involved. John Walsh has been contacted. This group should study many other measurements (and more realistically) [B-->tau nu, B-->Xs ll....]. - Spectroscopy. A. Polosa, Santorelli, D. Bernard... This issue had a little space on CDR and have been not discussed at the meeting with the IRC. Neverthless experts beleive that an increase of the stat. by a factor 100 could be very important for clarifying the present puzzles and in future for potential discoveries. It has been also advokated the interest of running at the thresholds of the new discovered resonnaces. This is worthwhile to study being a unique specificity of the SFF. Finally on the initiative of M. Morandini an activity on tools needed for superb is about starting and a meeting will take place at SLAC on Thr. 6th december, during the Babar coll. meeting. There was some discussion over who should lead the tools group. Either one of R.Faccini, T.Gershon, J.Olsen, A.Stocchi, or M.Morandin, or someone else. Conveners have to be soon choosen. A letter to Babar management will be soon written and sent to let them know of this new activity and of the Valencia meeting. Valencia meeting is scheduled from 7th to 15th of January. Fernando and Valencia friends promise a web page soon. It has been decided to have regular meeting on Friday at (17.30) (Rome-time) and to keep all the information posted on the superb web page. It was decided that Marcello will call the meetings and Achille will keep minutes that will be circulated. Marcello and Achille
