Description
The talk deals with spin physics in semiconductors, including a historical review starting from the pioneering studies of the sixties) and recent developments aimed to the realization of spintronics devices. A few experimental methods to investigate spin properties in semiconductors are discussed, as well as the role of deposition/fabrication techniques, which allow the realization of nanostructured samples (ultrathin films, quantum wells, multilayers). Topics such as electron spin injection and spin relaxation times will be addressed. Particular emphasis will be given to optical based methods and group IV semiconductors, a research field in which the Polimi group is particularly active.
