Description
Three-dimensional models are a particularly promising setup for the study of the quantisation of gauge theories involving particles of spin 2 and higher. One can take advantage both of the simplicity brought about by the absence of local degrees of freedom and of the tools of two-dimensional conformal field theory that can be introduced via holographic scenarios. After a brief review of the basic setup, I will show how a judicious choice of variables in the bulk allows one to set up a quantisation scheme following the lines of the free-field realisations of quantum W-algebras in 2D CFT. I will then discuss some applications of this proposal in the study of a holographic duality involving fields of higher spin.
