Description
In the 20th Century, symmetry became one of the guiding principles of physics. In this lecture, after an historical introduction, I will discuss the many ways in which symmetry is used in physics today (geometric, permutation, space-time, gauge, dynamic symmetry). In the 1970’s, the concept of symmetry was enlarged to that of supersymmetry. I will also discuss the ways in which supersymmetry is used today. The only experimentally confirmed example of supersymmetry will be presented. Finally I will address the future of symmetry in physics.
