Minutes of the SuperB DCH meeting of March 30th, 2009
Present:
--------
Finocchiaro, Patteri, Peruzzi, Rama (LNF)
Hearty (UBC)
Asner, Tatishvili (Carleton)
Roney (UVic)
Robertson (McGill)
1. WBS
------
The subdetectors have been asked to provide detail on which institution does what and with what manpower on the various WBS items.
The Canadian institutions have submitted funding requests for SuperB. The level of granted funds will be known later this week (around Apr. 1st). Since the manpower that can be devoted to SuperB is strictly dependent on the funding level, we defer the discussion of this point to the next meeting, when the situation is expected to be more clear.
2. DCH geometry options (M. Rama)
---------------------------------
Matteo presented the various options for the DCH length to be considered as configurations for the DGWG studies.
- In order to fill with sensitive volume all the space left free by removal of the support tube, it is suggested
to add another option, with a smaller internal radius of the DCH, if the SVT does not extend outwards.
- After the meeting Giuseppe and Matteo contacted Mike Kelsey on the phone. Mike confirmed that the 630mm presently
occupied by electronics services in the Babar DCH could likely be reduced by a factor 2 with a redesign of the
electronics. For the purpose of the DGWG studies thus one configuration could be with the chamber 30cm longer
in the backward direction.
3. Cluster counting considerations (G. Tatishvili)
--------------------------------------------------
Gocha showed several plots to have a feeling of the resolution on dN/dx one could get counting the clusters (with
infinitely fast electronics for the moment). A few things need to be further investigated:
- why the minimum in dEd/dx (from CLEO) and dN/dx (from Garfield) are different;
- the effect of delta rays;
- the average electron multiplicity in the generated clusters.
Next meeting will be held on April 9th at 8:00am PST
