Description
Beta decay properties of the neutron rich nuclei play a vital role in the astrophysical r-process, which is the main mechanism to produce about half of elements heavier than iron. As the r-process path is expected be located in very neutron rich region in the nuclear chart, the beta decay mode following by the delayed neutron emission becomes significant and eventually affects the final r-process abundance during the freeze-out time. The BRIKEN project is a present decay spectroscopy program at RIBF, following the success of the EURICA project, to continue surveying the beta decay properties of the most neutron rich nuclei accessible today with special focus on the beta delayed neutron emission measurement relevant to the r-process. In this talk, I will introduce the experimental setup and highlights some preliminary results obtained from a commissioning experiment, targeting on the neutron-rich nuclei near neutron-number N = 28.
