Description

I will contrast the spatial and memory narratives that have dominated these last few decades of hippocampal research, leading to the somersault caused by the discovery of grid cells. Besides yielding a Nobel prize for Edvard and May-Brit Moser, grid cells have paradoxically refocused attention on the dentate gyrus, as one of two key innovations introduced in the mammalian nervous system some 250 million years ago.
