Description
COMET is a new experiment that aims to find the neutrinoless decay of muon to electron in a nuclear field (muon to electron conversion). The process is forbidden in the Standard Model, but is predicted to occur at a detectable level in various extensions of the SM. The current experimental upper limit of the decay is 7E-13, the COMET is set to search for it at a single event sensitivity of 2.6E-17. The first stage of the experiment, so-called COMET Phase I, will start to take data in 2018.
