Description
LCLS is the world’s first hard X-ray free-electron laser. Its strobe-like pulses are just a few millionths of a billionth of a second long, and a billion times brighter than previous X-ray sources. The unique capabilities of LCLS-II will yield a host of discoveries to advance industry,LCLS-II requirements demanded a new approach as compared to the LCLS designs. The high performance systems (HPS) defines a set of LCLS-II controls sub-systems which are directly impacted by its 1Mhz operation. The HPS design looks at the collective requirements of all the systems, which is formed around a few key concepts: ATCA based packaging, a common digital board used for all applications, analog/RF application cards, a rear transition modules to allow flexible high level network access, and 10G Ethernet based interconnections for controls, monitoring and inter-communication.
