Description
A simplified theory for the Kapitza interface thermal resistance between two solids or solid/liquid interface is presented. The model treats the solid quantized elastic vibrations (phonons) using the classical isotropic Debye model and the energy flow across the interface using the classical results for one-dimensional acoustic wave transmission across the boundary between two different media. The final results show a good quantitative agreement with the complete theory of the Kapitza effect, both in the “acoustic mismatch limit” and in the “diffuse scattering limit”.
