Control system using piezoelectric tuners for testing serial‑production XFEL cavities

In order minimize the Lorentz Force Detuning (LFD) for cavity operation at high accelerating gradients (above 23 MV/m) sophisticated algorithms are used. One of them was developed for the measurement of quench limit of the RF cavities installed in the accelerating cryomodules. The control system was using: a step motor for wide range of tuning (kHz) and fast piezo tuners for the fine tuning (Hz). In the presentation an implementation and results for the XFEL cavities control for the serial-production tests are shown.
