Social Dinner

Bologna is sometimes called the gastronomical capital of Italy. The social dinner we propose for the evening of Tuesday, Sept. 16, is a tour in the countryside gastronomical tradition of the Emilia-Romagna region. It will consist in:
  • Buffet of appetizers, grilled and row vegetables, omelettes, etc... including the typical friggione bolognese of tomatoes & onions
  • First course: a try of 3 different kind of Emilian home made pasta:
    • Tortellacci (huge size tortellini) filled with ricotta (fresh cheese) and rucola (arugula)
    • Cordonetti di sfoglia gialla (home made pasta) dressed with speck (Südtirolean ham) and radicchio rosso lettuce
    • Gramigna alla salsiccia (very traditional Bolognese pasta with a sauce of pieces of sausage and tomato)
  • Second course: crescentine (fried bread) with salami, Parma ham, pickles, scquacquerone (very fresh cheese), etc... and tigelle (round bread cooked on a stone to be filled with a preparation of lard, parmesan and rosemary called pesto modenese)
  • Lemon sorbet at half of the meal as a "break"
  • Dessert: Home made Crostata (traditional cake)
  • Caffè e Ammazzacaffè (well, you will discover youself if you endure up to this point...)
  • local red (Sangiovese) & white (Pignoletto) wines (or water for ill people...)
Of course, accompanying persons are welcome. The cost should be around 30€ to be paid cash during registration at the welcome desk. For perverse bureuacratical reasons, we cannot include this price into the ordinary fees. So we shall ask this additioanl cost to all the participants and the accompanying persons separately. Receipts will be available for those who need to document their expense.

The dinner, at 8:00 pm, will take place at the Ristorante Agriturismo Al Pazz, in Montebudello on the hills half the way between Bologna and Modena. A bus is orgainzed to go there. The meeting is in front of the Math. Dept. (Piazza San Donato 1) at 7:00 pm.

Visit to the Etruscan ruins and Museum in Marzabotto

As a further social event, after the end of the workshop, in Thursday 18 afternoon, we plan a visit to the archaeological site and museum of the Etruscan town of Misa (or Kainua, in original Etruscan language), in the nearby (30 Km) village of Marzabotto.
A researcher from the Department of History and Acheology of Bologna University will guide us through the visit of the museum, the Acropolis and Necropolis as well as walking along the remains that clearly show the old town structure.
To reach the place, we take the local train (5,80€ return ticket) on the old Ferrovia Porrettana, the first in the 19th century to connect Bologna and Firenze. The views during the trip, if weather permits, are bucolic.
We shall take the train at 14:04 from the Central Station, West tracks.
The entrance to the Museum costs 3€ per person. If enough people are interested, we can explore the possibility to get a cumulative train ticket (with a discount).
