Topological Quantum Computation

by Kareljan Schoutens

Europe/Rome
Description
In special materials and devices, electrons or cold atoms can form many-body quantum states that have the potential of storing and processing quantum information, in a manner where topology provides protection against unwanted errors. Underlying these systems are so-called topological phases of quantum matter. The colloquium provides an overview of the key ideas, results and prospects in this field and highlights a key role of particles named after Leonardo of Pisa.
