Description
Due to a combination of many algorithmic advances, lattice simulations have become a powerful tool to study QCD. In this talk, the main ideas behind a new set of such simulations of the Coordinated Lattice Simulations (CLS) effort will be discussed, along with an overview of what has been achieved so far. Particular emphasis will be given to the topological charge of the gauge fields, how to overcome its freezing in the simulations by open boundary conditions and their consequences in the physics analysis.
