Description
CERN is building a new facility called MEDICIS to produce radioactive isotopes using the protons lost in the ISOLDE beam dump.
The principle is to place a MEDICIS target just before the beam dump, irradiate it with protons and send it back to a dedicated hot cell for conditioning and positioning on an off-line separator similar to the on-line ISOLDE facility.
This presentation will summarize the different general safety issues considered for this new project (fire, risk analysis, waste…). In addition a summary of the different failures that have occurred at ISOLDE will be explained and the technical solution foreseen to be implemented during LS1 (such as target and robot failures).
