Description
In this presentation I will address two distinct topics related to the production of high-quality radioactive beams. The first concerns design of beamline elements, in particular deectors and quadrupoles. I will address electrode shapes, effects of high-order fields, and how to optimise the geometry within practical constraints. The second topic concerns measurement of radioactive yields.
At CERN's ISOLDE facility we are currently developing a new tape station which will be capable of quantifying yields of isotopes with lifetimes as low as 100ms. I will cover the desirable features and specifications, and discuss how we aim to meet those requirements.
