THE 8TH INTERNATIONAL WORKSHOP ON CHIRAL DYNAMICS 2015 (CD2015) June 29 - July 3, 2015, Pisa, Italy THIRD and FINAL CIRCULAR June 2015 ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------------------------ 1. About the Conference ------------------------------------------------ This is the third announcement of the "8th International Workshop on Chiral Dynamics 2015" (CD2015) to be held in Pisa, Italy, from June 29 to July 3, 2015. The conference, the 8th in a series which started in 1994 at MIT, will take place at the Conference Center "Polo Fibonacci" of the Pisa University "Area Pontecorvo", in Pisa downtown. The aim of the workshop is the study of Chiral Dynamics, a tool for connecting hadronic and nuclear low energy phenomena to QCD. The workshop will have contributions from theorists and experimentalists, and a strong synergy with the lattice community will be present. Conference Venue ------------------------------------------------ The 8th International Workshop on Chiral Dynamics 2015 will take place at the Conference Center "Polo Fibonacci" of Pisa University, located in Largo Bruno Pontecorvo 3, in Pisa downtown. This is part of the "Pontecorvo Area", a mini-campus of Pisa University which includes the Physics, Mathematical, and Computer Science Departments. ------------------------------------------------ 3. Scientific Program ------------------------------------------------ The principal topics of the conference are: Hadron structure Isospin breaking in hadronic systems Meson-meson and meson-baryon interaction Effective field theory and chiral perturbation theory Few-body physics Compton scattering and the polarizabilities of the nucleons Hadronic contributions to g_mu-2 Lattice QCD and nuclear physics In addition to invited plenary talks, these topics will be the focus of the three following working groups (WGs): +++ Goldstone Boson. The program is based on the following format: +++ Plenary Sessions: Monday - Friday mornings. +++ Working Groups: Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday afternoons. Note that CD2015 will have three sessions running in parallel, each one for each working group. Each session will generally be kicked-off by some lead presentations, followed by regular presentations. +++ Poster session: Thursday 1PM-2:30PM. ------------------------------------------------ 4. Registration and Accomodation ------------------------------------------------ 4.1 Registration An early registration session will take place on Sunday June 28, from 5PM to 7PM, at the Cinema Teatro Lux, in Piazza S. Caterina. The Cinema Teatro Lux is at the side of the Church of S. Caterina, one of the most beautiful churches of Pisa. The registration fee for CD2015 is 400 euro (250 euro for the reduced fee). Among the possible payment methods, we still recommend bank transfer or credit card. In this second case, it is enough to fill the form that you can find on the conference website. Furthermore, please notice that the on-site payment by cash will be possible on Sunday afternoon, at the early registration site, and on Monday morning, from 8:30AM to 1PM at the registration desk at the conference hall. No cash will be accepted after this time. In case you need to pay by cash in a later time, please contact the organizers immediately. 4.2 Accommodation Asti Incentives & Congressi (A.I.C.) SRL is the Organizing Secretariat for CD2015 Conference and will be offering special rates for attendees. A.I.C. has reserved a number of hotel rooms in various hotels in different price categories. The majority of hotels are located in the city centre, near the Conference Venue. As Pisa in June is already fully booked due to high season, please note that reservation will be made on first come, first served basis. A.I.C. will be happy to assist you in all your accommodation needs for CD2015. Alternatively, you can do your own bookings. Proceedings ------------------------------------------------ Proceedings will be published on Proceeding of Science. They will include invited talks, selected contributed talks, and summaries of posters. The information on how to prepare the manuscript of the various contributions and also the page limit for each type of contribution will be communicated to the authors in due course. The deadline for the submission of the written version of the contribution is September 30, 2015. ------------------------------------------------ 6. Organization and Practical Information ------------------------------------------------ 6.1 Conference Location The conference will be held at the "Polo Fibonacci" in Largo Bruno Pontecorvo 3, a newly renovated conference center of the University of Pisa, located in the mini-campus "Area Pontecorvo" where the Physics Department of the University and the Pisa branch of INFN are also present. 6.2 Transportation Pisa is situated in Tuscany, in the central part of Italy. It is around 60 km west of Florence and 300 km north-west of Rome. The city of Pisa can be reached by: i) plane: Pisa airport is located very close to the city center. The Hotels can be reached very easily by bus or with a few minute ride by taxi. The airport has very good connections with major European cities (London, Paris, Munich, Madrid and others). There are also direct connections with many minor destinations all over Europe and frequent connections with the two main Italian airports, Roma Fiumicino and Milano Malpensa. Frequent connections from and to Florence, Rome and Milan are available. A trip from Rome or Milan with a direct train takes around 3 hours. For further information, visit the web-site http://www.trenitalia.it/. iii) Car: Motorway A12 connects Pisa with the north part of Italy (Milan, Genua). Motorway A11 connects Pisa with Florence. From south, it is more convenient first to reach Florence with motorway A1 and then follow direction Pisa Nord with motorway A11. 6.3 Weather The conference will take place at the end of June. The weather is usually very pleasant around this period of year, but it can become very hot. However, thunderstorms and rains are still possible, therefore bringing an umbrella and a light jacket would not be a bad idea! Note that Pisa is very close to the sea and good beach establishments are available in the nearby villages of Marina di Pisa and Tirrenia, about 10 km away from the center of Pisa. 6.4 Social Events +++ Monday June 29, 7PM -8PM: Welcome Reception at Grand Hotel Duomo, Via S. Maria +++ Wednesday July 1, 2PM-8PM: excursion to the nearby city of Lucca and piano concert by the distinguished pianist Dr. Young-Hyun Cho. Lucca is a city of art located about 20 km away from Pisa, which can be reached in 45 minutes. It is most famous for its many churches (it is also known as "the city of 100 churches"), and its renaissance city wall. Music of Haydn, Chopin, Debussy and Liszt 7:00PM departure from Lucca 8:00PM return to the hotels +++ Thursday July 2, 8:30PM-11PM: social dinner in the San Domenico cloister, Corso Italia A Pisa map with all the locations of the social events as well as the location of the conference hall is available on the conference website. 6.5 For the Speakers Each lecture hall will be equipped with a laptop and an LCD (beamer) projectors. The digital version of the presentation (PDF is the preferred format) should be uploaded on the conference webpage through the speaker's indico account. Alternatively, the speaker is urged to bring a copy of the talk on a memory stick, to be uploaded before the beginning of the speaker session. We would like to avoid problems of connecting laptops to the projector. Therefore, we urge the speakers to use the computer already provided in each lecture hall. 6.6 For the Poster Presenters The posters will all be placed in the main hall of the conference center. Boards of about 70 cm x 100 cm (width x height) will be provided for those intending to bring a poster with them. Note that this is the size for an A1 format (vertical). Please notify the organizers in advance if your poster has a greater format.
