THE 8TH INTERNATIONAL WORKSHOP ON CHIRAL DYNAMICS June 29 - July 3, 2015, Pisa, Italy *****Deadline for registration: June 15th, 2015. SECOND CIRCULAR May 2015 ------------------------------------------------------------------------ 1. Scope, Organization and Sponsorshhip ------------------------------- The purpose of this workshop series is the study of Chiral Dynamics, a tool for connecting hadronic and nuclear low energy phenomena to QCD. The workshop will have contributions from theorists and experimentalists, and a strong synergy with the lattice community will be present. Sponsors of the 2015 Workshop on Chiral Dynamics are - Universita' di Pisa - Istituto Nazionale di Fisica Nucleare - Universita' del Salento, Lecce - Comune di Pisa The conference will be jointly hosted by the Department of Physics of the University of Pisa and the Pisa branch of the Istituto Nazionale di Fisica Nucleare. This is the 8th conference in a series which started in 1994 at MIT, and was later held in Mainz (1997), Jefferson Lab (2000 and 2012), Bonn (2003), Duke (2006) and Bern (2009). 2. Conference Venue ------------------- The International Workshop on Chiral Dynamics 2015 will take place at the "Aula Magna di Scienze", located in Largo Bruno Pontecorvo 3, in Pisa downtown. The Aula Magna is part of the "Pontecorvo Area", a mini-campus of Pisa University which includes the Physics, Mathematical, and Computer Science Departments. In this area, a dress factory was established at the beginning of the XIX century by Pellegrino Pontecorvo, grandfather of the the dinstinguished physicist Bruno Pontecorvo. The factory changed owner in the thirties and reconstructed, becoming one of most moderm dress factory of that time. Finally, in the seventies, the factory closed and was acquired by the University of Pisa, and reconverted to become a universitary mini-campus. The "Aula Magna" is located in a building originally devoted to host the main power generators of the factory. Interesting is the presence in the building of one imponent steam power generator constructed in the thirties ("Caldaia Tosi"). 3. Scientific Program --------------------- The principal topics of the conference are: Hadron structure Isospin breaking in hadronic systems Meson-meson and meson-baryon interaction Effective field theory and chiral perturbation theory Few-body physics Compton scattering and the polarizabilities of the nucleons Hadronic contributions to g_mu-2 Lattice QCD and nuclear physics List of invited plenary speakers L. CD2015 will have three sessions running in parallel, one for each working group. Each session will be kicked-off by some lead presentations, followed by regular presentations. The format of the parallel sessions and the selection of the speakers is currently in progress. - Poster session: Wednesday 12:30am-2:30pm. • Social program (preliminary): - Sunday June 28, 5pm-7pm: early registration - Monday June 29, 7pm-8pm: welcome reception - Wednesday July 1, 3pm-8pm: excursion in a nearby city of art - Thursday July 2, 8pm-11pm: social dinner 5. Registration and participation ------------------------------------------------ Those planning to attend are kindly requested to complete the registration form available at the conference website http://agenda.infn.it/event/cd2015 Please note that the deadline for registration is June 15th, 2015. The registration fee includes participation to the conference, lunches, coffee-breaks, welcome reception, excursion, and conference dinner. If paid before May 31, 2015, the full registration fee for CD2015 is 350 euro. This increases to 400 euro for registrations received after that date (also on site). Please note that on site the registration fees must be paid only by cheque or credit card. A limited number of stipends covering accommodation and/or the conference fee is available. Invited plenary speakers and PhD students are entitled to the reduced registration fee. For more information please refer to the conference website. Accommodation: Asti Incentives & Congressi (AIC) srl is the Organizing Secretariat for CD2015 Conference and will be offering special rates for attendees. AIC has reserved a number of rooms in various hotels in different price categories. The majority of the hotels are located in the city centre, near the Conference Venue. As Pisa in June is already fully booked due to high season, please note that reservation will be made on first come, first served basis. AIC will be happy to assist you in all your accommodation needs for CD2015. For any questions, please contact us by e-mail to infocd2015@aicgroup.it. Alternatively, you can do your own bookings. A list of hotels can be found, among others, at the web-site http://portale.pisaonline.it. The average price is usually less than 100euro/night. 6. Proceedings ------------------------------------------------ Proceedings will be published on Proceedings of Science. They will include invited talks, selected contributed talks, and summaries of posters. 7. Organization Information --------------------------------------- Location of the conference: Pisa is located in Tuscany, in the central part of Italy. It is around 60 Km west of Florence and 300 Km north-west of Rome. Transportation: The city of Pisa can be reached by: i) plane: Pisa airport is located very close to the city center. The Hotels can be reached very easily by bus or with a few minute ride by taxi. The airport has very good connections with major European cities (London, Paris, Munich, Madrid and others).
