Description
A key issue in QCD is the dynamics driven by the chiral symmetry breaking scenario at low energy, in particular the role of explicit symmetry breaking by the mass of the strange quark which is neither "light" nor "heavy". Low-energy interactions of antikaons with nucleons and nuclei, investigated at the highest level of experimental precision, are excellent probes to explore the dynamics resulting from the combination of spontaneous and explicit chiral symmetry breaking. This seminar reviews our present understanding of KbarN interactions and the quest for possible antikaon-nuclear quasibound systems from the point of view of chiral SU(3) effective field theory.
