Description

The microcanonical ensemble is the most basic of the classical ensembles of Boltzmann (who called it "the ergodic ensemble") and Gibbs. However, it is also the most difficult to evaluate and to estimate. I give a survey over the state of the arts of rigorous results, and point out some still open problems.
