Description
Currently LIGO (Laser Interferometric Gravitational wave Observatory) is under a major upgrade and will be online possibly in 2014 aiming a first detection. A big challenge in this type of interferometer is to precisely bring all the optical resonant cavities to the resonance point (for example with a precision of less than 1 nm for the 4 km cavities of LIGO). I will talk about an experimental demonstration of a new multicolor interferometric technique which employs auxiliary lasers in a different color from the main laser in order to aid the precision control.
