Description
For Kaonic atom x-ray spectroscopy, we aim at an application of microcalorimeter that is being developed for x-ray observation satellite. The adoption of this x-ray detector in nuclear experimental physics field will be the worlds first if it is realized. Many experiments have been performed to collect data on a variety of targets from hydrogen to uranium so far; the precision however is not enough, and so the real part of the optical potential between kaon and nucleus is still not promising. In the x-ray spectroscopy for the x-ray energy from a few keV to a few 10 keV, they have employed the conventional silicon detector whose energy resolution is not enough for extracting the small strong-interaction effect being essential in the recent studies of kaon-nucleus strong interaction in low energy limit. Therefore, aiming at a breakthrough in this field, we are planning to perform an ultra-high resolution x-ray spectroscopy of kaonic atoms using microcalorimeter with transition edge sensor. We are enhancing partnerships with universities and facilities where the microcalorimeter is developing towers the sixth x-ray observation satellite ?ASTRO-H? in these days. In this talk, I'll introduce the experiment and present the recent progress on it.
