DESCRIPTION:Cosmic strings are relics from the early Universe whose detect
 ion would provide direct evidence for physics beyond the Standard Model. I
  will summarise the methods currently used to predict their gravitational-
 wave signatures\, and the work I have done towards improving these predict
 ions. This primarily consists of HPC simulations of field theory strings u
 sing adaptive mesh refinement\, and more recently\, analytic calculations
