Description
Lattice QCD is the theoretical framework where the dynamics of strongly
interacting particles can be investigated from first principles. After
an introduction to the subject and to recent selected results, I will
focus on a new proposal for determining thermodynamic potentials from the response of a thermal field theory to a twist in the boundary conditions. By-products of the derivation, such as a recursion relation among the cumulants of the momentum distribution and formulae for finite-volume corrections to several well-known thermodynamic identities, will also be discussed.
