We discuss the validity and the more recent developments  of the Fermi theory in the study of flavor physics  and CP violation in the Standard Model (SM) and in searches of signals of physics beyond the SM. Particular attention will be devoted to the so called anomalies and to theoretical and experimental uncertainties.
