Description
We give an overview of the recent development in the computation of the effective two body dynamics in General Relativity, with special emphasis to the effective field theory (EFT) approach. We show how phenomena usually associated with quantum physics, like divergences and renormalization, appear within an EFT analysis of purely classical problems like the post-Newtonian expansion of classical relativity. The study of the gravitational two body problem is of outstanding phenomenological interest due to the forthcoming observation run by the large interferometer Virgo and LIGO, due to start in fall 2014, and an overview of the present and near future plan of the gravitational wave search will be given.
