Description
ABSTRACT

The Spallation Neutron Source (SNS) is the most recent major science facility to be made available to the international research community at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL). This unique facility, operating at a power of 1MW, provides the research community with access to the most intense pulsed neutron beams in the world, and complements the instrumentation available at the High Flux Isotope Reactor (HFIR). The SNS provides scientists and engineers around the world with the opportunity to carry out research at the forefront of physics, chemistry, materials science, engineering, and biology. In particular, making use of pulse probe techniques, the high pulsed intensity permits unprecedented measurements on materials in transitional states and of equilibrium. Highlights of recent research carried out at SNS will be given and opportunities for future research directions will be discussed.
