Summary
IMP advances accelerator-based technology for medical isotopes (⁹⁹ᵐTc/⁹⁹Mo, 68Ge/68Ga, 211At, ²²⁵Ac, etc.). China’s HIRFL (the Heavy Ion Research Facility in Lanzhou (HIRFL), large heavy ion facility, world’s few full-ion types) accelerates high-energy hydrogen ions, supporting ²²⁵Ac production. The team used HIRFL’s beam to bombard ²³²Th (spallation), made a remote robot for high-radiation targets, and via their auto multi-chromatography system got ~40 µCi ²²⁵Ac (80% recovery, >98%/99% purities, <2.5 μg/mL impurities).
