Summary
The work presents two complementary strategies to improve the production of the radionuclide 47Sc, which is valuable for theranostic applications due to its β− emission for targeted therapy and γ emission for SPECT imaging. The first strategy uses a bilayer target system combining natural vanadium and enriched 50Ti layers irradiated with protons up to 35 MeV to optimize yield while minimizing radioactive impurities. The second strategy focuses on 49Ti targets irradiated with low-energy deuterons, a promising method compatible with hospital cyclotrons that reduces the production of long-lived contaminants. These approaches offer practical and adaptable solutions for cleaner and more accessible 47Sc production, supporting clinical application and future medical isotope development.
