Summary
This project developed realistic training materials for radiological and nuclear first responders by incorporating short-lived radionuclides (e.g., Cu-64, Br-82) into sol-gel-based surrogate nuclear debris, enabling safe, high-dose-rate training scenarios that decay quickly and leave no lasting environmental impact; optimal bromine retention and dose rates were achieved using an HCl-based production method.
