Summary

The SCAR (Saturated-Absorption Cavity Ring-Down) technique is an innovative, highly sensitive laser technology that overcomes the cost and infrastructure limitations of traditional radiocarbon detection methods. This work demonstrates SCAR's application in pharmaceutical research by enabling the precise quantification of 14C-glucose metabolism to investigate the G6PD enzyme and metabolic vulnerabilities in cancer cells. SCAR makes radiocarbon tracing more practical and safer, opening new avenues for efficient drug discovery and metabolism studies.
