Description

In this talk, I will discuss different aspects of the physics potential of dark matter (DM) direct detection (DD) experiments, beyond WIMPs. In the first part of the talk, I will focus on the interplay between neutrino and DM searches. I will first comment on possible variations of the irreducible background of astrophysical neutrinos (constituting the so-called v-floor, or fog) due to uncertainties in the coherent elastic neutrino-nucleus scattering (CEvNE) cross-section. Then, I will mention an additional contribution to this background, originating from nuclear reactors.Next, I will discuss DM DD experiments as tools to probe new physics in the neutrino sector, through their detection of solar neutrinos. In the second part of the talk, I will comment on the possibility of probing sub-GeV DM, boosted to semi-relativistic velocities through its scattering with the diffuse supernova neutrino background.
